For the first time the annual nationwide conference Young Scientists in Paleontology will take place at the University of Opole. The conference is held under the patronage of the Rector of the University of Opole, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, and the Mayor of Opole.

The Organizing Committee consists of doctoral students of biology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, assisted by the European Centre for Palaeontology of the UO. During the conference young scientists (mostly PhD students from across Poland) will have the opportunity to submit the results of their research in the form of research papers or posters, to establish new research contacts, and to hear interesting presentations given by the invited guests.

This year lectures will be delivered by: Dr Kamilla Popławska from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Dr Zbigniew Remin from the University of Warsaw, and Dr John W.M. Jagt from the Natural History Museum in Maastricht. Workshops on the correct methodology of scientific research will be conducted by Prof. Adam Badzioch and a field trip to the Odra Quarry in Opole will be led by Prof. Elena Yazykova.

The conference is to be held on 18-19 November at the Museum of the University of Opole. We invite all those interested to hear papers and visit the palaeontological exhibition at the Museum of the UO.
