Arkadiusz Wiśniewski, Mayor of Opole, visited the construction site of Collegium Medicum at the invitation of Prof. Wiesława Piątkowska-Stepaniak, Vice-Rector for Development and Administration.

- The pace is staggering  and I am amazed that so much has been done in such a short time, - said the Mayor finishing his visit.

- It was possible thanks to, inter aria, the support of the city, - stressed Prof. Piątkowska-Stepaniak.

Indeed, given that the construction work was launched in February, the fact that the building is practically ready for commission looks like a miracle. The last finishing works are under way and cleaning crews are clearing away the site.

The Mayor visited the finished rooms intended for classes in anatomy and histology. The rooms differ in colours - red was assigned to anatomy and yellow to histology. Each of the rooms has technical back-up facilities, and the building is equipped with the smart power management. For example, the temperature can be programmed according to the weather, or the current use of the building.

Large glass surfaces let in lots of light into the interior. The stately lounge area on the ground floor will have one of its walls covered with commemorative plates dedicated to benefactors who financially supported the medical school and the construction of Collegium Medicum. The text of the Hippocratic oath is to be engraved on the opposite wall of the lounge.

The area around the Collegium Medicum is to be filled with greenery and a parking lot is also planned there.

Arkadiusz Wiśniewski declared further support for the medical  school. - It is our duty, - he said. - This project is extremely important for Opole, which is, after all, an academic city. It is the task of the city to appreciate and support the academic institutions in Opole. Medical school is one of the most ambitious projects we have seen in Opole in recent years and we will constantly support it.

- The support of the city is of great importance to us – emphasized Prof. Piątkowska-Stepaniak. - Thanks to it, the work is progressing on schedule. Without funding on the part of the authorities of Opole it would be much harder, – she added. – We are very grateful for all the invaluable help and understanding.
