The seminar entitled Transfer of non-medical knowledge to the hospital organization took place in the University Hospital on May 23. The meeting also included the signing of a cooperation agreement between the hospital and the University of Opole, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, as part of a multifaceted partnership. On the part of our university, it was signed by Prof. Marek Masnyk, Rector of the UO, and Dariusz Madera, Director of the UH. In this way, the hospital's cooperation with the Chair of Land Protection, the Chair of Molecular Biology and the Chair of Process Engineering, which has been going on for a long time, has been formally framed.

- 'Today's signing of the agreements is basically a seal on the activities that have been taking place since the university took over the hospital,' - said Prof. Wiesława Piątkowska-Stepaniak, Vice-Rector for Administration and Development, who welcomed the seminar participants. - 'We have already carried out scientific sessions together, and projects for the establishment of a Science and Research Centre in the hospital, and we are raising considerable funds from the Regional Operational Programme, for which we are grateful to the Marshal of the Voivodeship, who is the patron of our undertakings. Today's session is one of the elements documenting the support of our university for research at the University Hospital and the growing cooperation.

The director of UH, Dariusz Madera, is of a similar opinion. - 'The hospital's cooperation with the university is very beneficial, and it has been very strong since the UO took over our institution. Since then, we have been working very intensively, together with Vice-Rector Wiesława Piątkowska-Stepaniak, to transform our facility in the most effective way possible to improve its service to patients and students of the Medical School at UO. Together we apply for funds for necessary investments, changes, modernizations, etc. in the hospital, because we are all aware that changing the name from the Voivodeship Medical Centre to the University Hospital is not enough.

- 'We hope that the cooperation between the hospital and the university will expand and include not only the medical sphere, and student education, but also such non-medical issues as ecology and environmental protection, because the hospital has a significant impact on its neighbourhood - both natural and social environment' - said Dariusz J. Sitko from UH. We want the results of the latest research carried out at the University of Opole to be transferred to our hospital so that we could use them for the general, common good.

During the seminar, the participants were presented with detailed information about the University Hospital, as well as about the units of our university involved in the cooperation with the hospital. Dr Krzysztof Badora from the Chair of Land Protection also talked about the inventory of green areas around the hospital and the the concept of adjusting them to the needs of employees and patients. The possibilities of improving the energy efficiency of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems in hospital buildings were also discussed.
