The renovated and retrofitted General and Vascular Surgery Ward and the latest generation CT scanner were commissioned at the University Hospital in Opole. The project is worth PLN 9 million.

The ceremony, which took place on 19 October 2018 in the UH, was attended by the Rector of the University of Opole, Prof. Marek Masnyk, who expressed his joy at the fact that the university hospital is developing and modernising.

The modern CT scanner cost PLN 5 million. It is a camera with two lamps and two rows of detectors. Additionally, PLN 1 million was invested in the reconstruction of the Computer Tomography Laboratory rooms for its use. For this investment, the UH raised money from the EU funds (85% of the subsidy) and the Ministry of Health (15%).
The second important investment was the renovation and equipping of the General and Vascular Surgery Ward, the largest surgical ward in the Opole region and the only vascular centre in the Voivodeship. The total cost of this project is PLN 3 million, of which the subsidy from the EU funds amounted to PLN 2 million. The hospital also received a subsidy of 350 thousand zlotys from the University of Opole to cover part of its own contribution.

At the ward, the electrical, lighting, water-sanitary and central heating networks were replaced, rooms were refurbished and adapted to patients' needs, and doctors' surgeries and nurses' duty rooms were modernised. In addition, intensive supervision rooms with monitoring systems were created, as well as rooms equipped with specialist beds. Sanitary facilities were also rebuilt and adapted for the disabled. Medical equipment and appliances were purchased: patient monitors, ECG apparatus, vacuum wound treatment systems, anti-bedsore mattresses and syringe pumps.

'The renovation of the ward means first of all the improvement of the standards for the patient, the employees who received new medical equipment and renovated rooms will also benefit. We have completed the surgery and we are already beginning the renovation of the ophthalmology ward, which will be ready in half a year,' said Dariusz Madera, director of the hospital.

The purchase of the CT scanner and renovation of the General and Vascular Surgery Ward was possible thanks to the acquisition of funds in the multi-scope project 'Improving the efficiency of the wards and facilities of the University Hospital in Opole in terms of infrastructure by purchasing and replacing the necessary equipment and renovation', co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020, Strengthening strategic health care infrastructure. Within its framework, the hospital gained over PLN 27 million. The level of co-financing from the European Union funds is 85%, while the own contribution financed by the Ministry of Health is about 4 million zlotys.
