From 28 to 30 March 2023, the University of Opole hosts representatives of partner FORTHEM universities from Jyväskylä, Agder, Valencia and Mainz within the symposium on modelling citizen science for educational institutions - Modelling Citizen Science for Education (MSCEDU).

The event is the culmination point of the MSCEDU project, implemented by researchers from the Multilingualism in School and Higher Education FORTHEM Lab, and by the Institute of Linguistics (Faculty of Philology) and the Chair of Sociology (Faculty of Social Sciences) at the UO.

The aim of the Opole part of the project is to prepare pupils and teachers from selected secondary schools to introduce elements of citizen science in project work with pupils in humanities and social sciences grades. This semester, pupils from secondary schools nos. 3, 6 and 8 use their knowledge of research methods to explore issues important to them and identified in their immediate environment. In this year's MSCEDU series, the themes of the pupils' endeavours focus on the social determinants of language and media communication.

The scientific symposium will develop a model for the process of implementing citizen science in schools following the theory of change. There will be presentations and seminars on various aspects of cooperation among schools in different countries, and focus groups on engagement, motivation and challenges in the implementation process, about which you can learn more here.

In addition, on Thursday, 30 March 2023, the organisers invite you to:
