Opole County has donated a parcel of land with a greenhouse to the University of Opole.

- Today's signing of a notarial deed is a formal conclusion of the negotiations carried out between the County of Opole and our University, - said Professor Marek Masnyk, Rector of UO. - It is a necessary legal step towards the completion of our Pomology project.

- It is the second property that we make over to the university within the Pomology project, - said Tadeusz Dziubałtowski, head of the Department of Property and Agriculture of the Opole County Administration. - As the authorities of Opole County we are glad that we can assist the University in completing one of its key projects. We hand over the land together with a historic greenhouse, hoping that it will be restored to its original condition, so we will have a chance to see how greenhouses in past looked like.

The flagship project of the University

The project of revitalization of the Royal Academy of Sciences in Prószków is, together with the founding of the medical school and creating Faculty of Medicine,  a flagship project of the University of Opole.

The university has to raise 10 million zlotys to apply for an EU grant. A donation of 1.5 million zlotys has been declared by the Opole County, 2 million zlotys has been donated by the Marshal of the Opole Voivodeship, Andrzej Buła, and 2.5 million zlotys donates by Grupa Azoty from Kędzierzyn-Koźle. The functional design is ready. The application for a grant from the Regional Operational Programme 2014-2020 was submitted in July. On behalf of the University project is supervised by Grzegorz Sawicki.

What the project is about

The University of Opole, together with local authorities, builds an International Research and Development Centre for agriculture and food industry. The Centre is to be established on the site of the former School of Natural Sciences.

The cost of the project, called Revitalization of the Royal Academy of Sciences in Prószków, is 42 million zlotys. It will take at least three years to complete it.

The Centre will include, inter alia, a laboratory performing paid tests for food industry companies in the area of  toxicology, ecotoxicology, soil science or precision agriculture. It will also encompass experimental fields, nature trails and an area for organising events related to agriculture, for example, fairs.

The research part of the Centre with specialist laboratories will be built on the university campus in Opole.
