On 10 December 2022, graduates of the eighth edition of the trilateral Europa Master programme will receive their diplomas. The day before, there will be a workshop on interculturalism and Europeaness under the FORTHEM programme, and on 8 December 2022, Prof. Dr Ruth Zimmerling from the University of Mainz will give a lecture on democracy.

The Europa Master is a trilateral master's programme focused on European integration. The programme is implemented by three partner universities: University of Opole, Poland, Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany, and University of Burgundy in Dijon, France.

“The Europa Master programme lasts 4 semesters. Its participants study for one semester at each of the partner universities, and after defending their theses, they receive diplomas from all three universities," says Prof. Joanna Kulska, director of the Europa Master programme at the UO.

The first students were admitted in the academic year 2013-2014, so this year we are celebrating the tenth enrollment for the programme. The first semester of the study cycle takes place in Opole, the second in Mainz, and the third in Dijon. The fourth semester is devoted to writing a Master's thesis, which is defended at the university of students’ choice, and to obligatory internships, which they carried out in, inter alia, the European Union institutions and diplomatic missions.

“Interestingly, students value not only the possibility of obtaining a diploma from three universities, but above all the programme’s international character, uniqueness, interdisciplinarity, interculturality or multilingualism,” sums up Prof. Kulska. “Over the years, more than one hundred students from over twenty countries have graduated from our programme,” she adds.

The graduation ceremony will take place on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at the Collegium Civitas of the University of Opole.

The day before, on December 9, 2022, the Collegium Civitas will host a workshop organised by the FORTHEM Alliance, under which the University of Opole cooperates with eight European universities: Johann Gutenberg University of Mainz, University of Burgundy in Dijon, University of Jyvaskyla, University of Palermo, University of Latvia, University of Valencia, University of Agder and Lucian Blaga University in Sibiu. The workshop will focus on interculturalism and Europeaness. The agenda includes talks on European regions, the FORTHEM project, and multiculturalism.

The three-day event will commence on Thursday, December 8, 2022, with a lecture delivered by Prof. Dr Ruth Zimmerling from the Institute of Political Science of Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. The lecture, organised within the framework of the Golden Series Lectures, is entitled “Democracy and Truth: Where Science and Politics Meet,” and it starts at 11.00 a.m. in the Senate Hall, Collegium Maius.
