Description:

Intercultural Communication focuses on identity issues in the era of globalisation and ubiquity of new media. We study intercultural conflict and dialogue, the role of interactive digital media in intercultural relations and sociology of ethnic or national groups and minorities. Confronting theoretical knowledge with practical examples we not only get to know new cultures but we also learn how to understand and analyse them in social, political and economic contexts.

Graduates will be prepared to work in intercultural dialogue, to write programmes in multicultural areas, to solve social problems generated by tensions on the borderlines of between cultures. They will be able to see and understand consequences of cultural diversity of societies and they will be open to interact with representatives of other cultures.

The knowledge and skills acquired during the studies will enable graduates to participate reflectively and responsibly in culturally diversified forms of communication. They will be able to work in public and private organisations which operate in multicultural environment, like educational institutions, consulting firms, foundations and associations working towards solving culture-based conflicts. The trend of the opening of the markets to international cooperation makes it even more certain that the demand for specialists in intercultural communication will be growing, because the knowing and considering cultural context turns out to be a decisive factor while preparing, e.g. advertising and marketing campaigns.
